AFPS06 Tawney Owl portrait
Shropshire Wildlife greeting card.
Photography by Andrew Fusek Peters
“Though tawny owls are common in the UK, they are normally more seen than heard. But I was fortunate this year to hear about a pair that they had bred in a very suburban garden in Bishop’s Castle. These owls were used to land owners, passing cars and trucks, streetlights and all the noise of the town. By day, they roosted in one of the beech trees that overlooked the main road out of town, their feathers fitting in perfectly with the newly coloured leaves.”
